Fear. It grips us. It can literally paralyze us totally and make us freeze in a moment. Anyone that tells you that fear isn't a component in their life is either lying or they aren't really pushing the envelope in any way. Fear, for those who are really alive, presents itself daily. Of course this is difficult to deal with at certain times but we do have the option to make choices in face of fear. That moment, the moment we decide to move forward despite what's challenging us, is a fantastic show of bravery.
How can you really begin to work with fear run from it, cast it away, or try to block it out fully?
We must work with our emotions instead of hiding from them.
Maybe that's easier said than done, but over time you become more skilled in working with your emotions instead of avoiding them completely.
Experientially avoiding your emotions is an unconditional prison cell and you'll do more damage than good in taking part in it. What ends up going down? Possibly one of the worst situations you can personally get yourself into - you become numb. I believe we have all been there now and then and stayed in a place where we can't feel anything. This is not the worst thing in the world, but the things that people do after they're numb are truly threatening.
We start going down the line of compromising on our deepest foundations simply to feel again, and with a never ending list of things that serve as great temptaitons in this life, things can begin to get pretty messsy.
I've been there, I've seen many other people go there, and unfortunately it really is something that's going to continue for a long time until you seriously try to make a change in your perspective about how you deal with fear.
When you try and cage the wild pony of fear up, it will try to tear everything apart it can.
But if you let that fear out and allow it to buck and play in the pasture, eventually it will tire itself out and calm down to something much more manageable. Don't restrain under fear. Instead, try to soften as much as possible. Breathe. Relax. Watch fear dance around you and let it do what it has to do.
If you can do that, you may put yourself in a much more powerful place to make a decision beyond fear rather than being stuck in it.
